Navarin Printanier ~ Spring Lamb Stew ~ French Fridays With Dorie

I'm a little late with this week's French Fridays with Dorie post, but our nephew was visiting this weekend, so we waited to make it for him.  We all enjoyed this immensely.  The meat was tender and the vegetables were delicious.

Navarin Printanier is a lovely braised stew that makes the most of fresh spring lamb and vegetables.  We could not resist replacing 1 cup of the beef broth with red wine - I really had to read the recipe 3 times to make sure it didn't call for's French, right?!?  Well, I think we made the right call - the wine tenderized the meat and deepened the flavor of the broth.

By now, all of us Doristas know this is a tried & true way to braise meat.

  1. Looks like you prepared a delicious Navarin Printanier and I am glad that all of you enjoyed it so much. I agree, it is a nice dish to prepare for family and friends. When I cooked the dish I was also looking for the wine in the list of ingredients - being a French stew and all. Nice photos - nice post!

  2. Hi Susan. You definitely made the right call on adding the wine. That seems so right (thought I didn't do it myself). We are all getting good at braising meat, aren't we? I especially loved the gravy in this stew. Glad everyone at your table enjoyed this one. Have a great week.

  3. That picture with all the lovely vegetables caught my eye. And red wine + stew is rarely a bad decision.

  4. I love the recipe but the blue heron is just breathtaking!

  5. The stew looks terrific and I agree with you, wine makes a whole lot of difference when it comes to braising meat!

  6. If I were your nephew, I'd be sure I was sitting at your table every weekend. Is he one lucky guy. Your stew looked beautiful and the red wine was a good call - adult fare, to be sure. We have a resident blue heron at the lake near where I live in Nevada. And, in Aspen, I live close to a rookery. I love those guys.

  7. Your stew looks great! Wine could only make it better. And I love herons, too.

  8. Susan, So glad you got this one done…it was so worth the effort! We really loved it! Your stew looks wonderfully delicious! Great photos…love the heron!

Thanks for stopping by! I'd love to hear from you.
