| Chocolate Espresso bar from Moonstruck |
Before I started blogging, if something didn't turn out exactly right, I would just tell myself that no one would know because they'd never had it before. And, normally I wouldn't blog about something that didn't turn out, but, since I'm part of this group, I'm going to blog about it.
The crust and flour-less mocha tart turned out perfectly, but the pudding never set. In fact, it was lumpy. I was sorry to waste such good chocolate, but truthfully, I don't think the tart needed it, and everyone loved it just the way it was.
I garnished this tart with a Dark Chocolate Espresso Bean bar that we brought back from Portland.
| Sans Pudding, but still looking good |
No one at our party thought, or knew, that this tart was supposed to be any different than it was - so it was a hit! Most importantly, my husband loved it.
Happy Birthday, John!

I am a firm believer in "putting it all out there" :-)
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely and sounds as if the end result was tasty - even if it didn't live up to your expectations.
Happy Birthday to John!
Happy Birthday to John! and a wonderful looking cake, what a lovely treat:)
ReplyDeleteWow, great idea for a flourless tart! I didn't have time for this recipe, but plan to make it soon (perhaps sans pudding)! Looks perfect just as it is!
ReplyDeleteOh yum, that looks divine!
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious. Sorry the pudding didn't work out, but it is true that 3 components was probably enough for one cake!
ReplyDeleteIt looks delicious as is, sans pudding. Your husband must have been delighted! I love the picture of the cormorants.
ReplyDeleteYum it was so rich with the pudding I'm sure it tasted great without, but what I want is the chocolate bar it looks delicious! Happy birthday John x
ReplyDeleteYou made it work in the face of challenge...I love it. Looks beautiful. Happy Birthday to your husband. I will try the layering again but with different recipe parts. Mine didn't turn out as I had hoped either.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the pudding, but it looks delicious anyway!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to John! I've made this before, and I definitely think it would be excellent without the pudding :) Doesn't blogging change how you look at your food? I think I drive my family nuts at times...LOL.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a hit to me too Susan! I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at a piece of this. Happy birthday to your husband!
ReplyDeleteI love mississippi mud pie, it's amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteSusan, I don't want to be unkind or mean-spirited but it sorta made me smile that something you made didn't come out perfect. Oh, I wish I were a better person than that. Over the week-end Melissa and I had another look (and, laugh) at your Brown Sugar Bundt Cake with Maple Dressing and my version of it (at 106 degree heat or something near that). But your "failures" or near-misses would by my triumphs. I think your birthday cake/tart looks fabulous. Happy Birthday, John. You're a lucky man. And, being a birder, I love the pix of the double-crested cormorants.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your husband! Your cake looks beautiful, Susan! I am so sorry your pastry cream didn't turn out this time. I didn't make the cake because I just didn't have time and frankly I overdosed on the chocolate pudding from Aunt Sabra's pudding cups and so I am good for awhile on that. :) I like that you just went with the flourless cake and I love how you decorated it. That is a great picture of the cormorants!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you always go the extra mile to do such beautiful garnishes! And so long as the birthday boy loved it, it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to John and I am sure that he would be very happy with such a delicious cake you made for him. I would love to have it in my birthday too!
