| My brother made this sign from an Elton John album cover design |
In a true act of love, my brother made every one of these colorful sugar cookies for my party! He decorated them with Royal Icing.
I used 1 recipe of this cake batter to make 24 cupcakes, pink food coloring, instead of red, and used 1/2 recipe of Lemonade Buttercream Frosting. The cake was absolutely delicious and had a perfect texture. I'd never made Buttercream using Marshmallow Creme, and am not a huge fan of marshmallows, so I was a little skeptical about the frosting. As it turns out, I needn't have worried! It was easy to make and tasted great. The advantage of adding Marshmallow Creme is that it makes the frosting very fluffy & keeps it that way. I will definitely make this recipe again - I'd like to try the bi-colored cake!

I found tons of retro candy at the 99 Cents Only Store and Wal-Mart, too!
Enjoy!

You did Elton proud. Those sugar cookies - I could eat a tray. With milk. The retro candy is a chuckle. I think you need a birthday vacation to recuperate from the birthday party. Again, Bon Anniversaire.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea, I love the theme! The sugar cookies are too cute - hope you had a wonderful birthday!
ReplyDeleteSinging happy birthday is in order, though I won´t sound like Elton! What a great party you all put together Susan. I need to make your lemonade bundt cake, is that the recipe you used for the cupcakes? Hope you had a fantastic day!
ReplyDeletePaula, if you click on the name of the cake, it hyperlinks to the recipe - this one is from Better Homes & Gardens Magazine and only has lemon - the other one I made was strawberry & lemon - you won't be disappointed either way!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for the birthday wishes!
Too much fun, great way to celebrate your birthday;-)
ReplyDeleteThese cookies are so Elton's style Susan! I am sure you had a great time!
ReplyDeleteSusan! How did I miss your birthday and this post :-(

You personify 50 and fabulous in my book. Cheers
Happy belated birthday! I love your theme for the party!!!
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY SUSAN! What a great theme for a birthday party. A wonderful celebration!
ReplyDeleteDo you remember the "crocodile rock" song? It goes something like this:
I remember when rock was young
Me and Susie had so much fun....
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own... Those were the days, my friend.
Happy belated birthday Susan! Your party looks like so much fun and your dessert table looks delicious! How sweet of your brother to make those cookies for you, I think mine would have gone out and bought something :-)
