Elton John Theme Party ~ Dessert Table

My brother made this sign from an Elton John album cover design
I have always loved Elton John.  A year ago, I decided I wanted an Elton John theme party for my 50th birthday. With the help of my husband, brother, sister-in-law, niece, Chelsea, and nephew, Frank, I pulled it off!  We had so much fun.  Unfortunately, I was too busy to get pictures of everything we made, but here's what was on the desert table.

In a true act of love, my brother made every one of these colorful sugar cookies for my party!  He decorated them with Royal Icing.

I used 1 recipe of this cake batter to make 24 cupcakes, pink food coloring, instead of red, and used 1/2 recipe of Lemonade Buttercream Frosting.  The cake was absolutely delicious and had a perfect texture.  I'd never made Buttercream using Marshmallow Creme, and am not a huge fan of marshmallows, so I was a little skeptical about the frosting.  As it turns out, I needn't have worried!  It was easy to make and tasted great.  The advantage of adding Marshmallow Creme is that it makes the frosting very fluffy & keeps it that way.  I will definitely make this recipe again - I'd like to try the bi-colored cake!

Aren't these Wilton Cupcake papers cute?

I found tons of retro candy at the 99 Cents Only Store and Wal-Mart, too!

Enjoy!

  1. You did Elton proud. Those sugar cookies - I could eat a tray. With milk. The retro candy is a chuckle. I think you need a birthday vacation to recuperate from the birthday party. Again, Bon Anniversaire.

  4. Paula, if you click on the name of the cake, it hyperlinks to the recipe - this one is from Better Homes & Gardens Magazine and only has lemon - the other one I made was strawberry & lemon - you won't be disappointed either way!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes!

Do you remember the "crocodile rock" song? It goes something like this:

I remember when rock was young
Me and Susie had so much fun....
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own... Those were the days, my friend.
