Local Orange Flower Honey |
This week’s Baked Sunday Mornings challenge is for Honey Banana Poppy Seed Bread. As I was running late this week, I read some of my fellow Bakesters comments and posts before I headed into the kitchen. Surprisingly, this recipe met with mixed reviews. But, then everyone has a favorite Banana Bread recipe. Ours is Sour Cream Banana Bread.
What made me curious about this recipe was the addition of 1/4 cup of honey. I used locally sourced Raw Honey from Orange flowers. The other surprise ingredient is Poppy Seeds. I thought about leaving then out, but I love lemon poppy seed bread, so decided to trust the Baked Boys and jump right in.
I took the advice of some fellow Bakesters and covered my bread with a foil tent after 40 minutes to ensure the center of the bread was cooked through without over-browning the top.
This is a perfect bread for tea! It smelled great while baking and the honey lends a deepness to the flavor. We’ll enjoy it for breakfast tomorrow.

You made it! Good looking loaf! I thought about not adding the poppy seeds too, but I’m so glad I did. It really is a good bread.
Are you really going to the IFBC? It looks interesting. Have you ever been to one of these? I’m curious.

Looks great Susan!

Our banana bread disappeared within minutes out of the oven. I was impressed that it sliced so well hot out of the oven, and I agree that the honey added depth to the flavors. I’ll have to bake this again and use poppy seeds…I had them out and ready, but….brain dead. But walnuts were great too.

I think this sounds interesting and it looked delicious. Since both you and Krissy agree, I might try it but I am also going to look at your Sour Cream Banana Bread right now. I love banana bread and found I can bake a loaf/freeze half of it/ and it holds its flavor quite well.

I too was skeptical about the poppy seeds, but I’m so glad I put them in– what a lovely crunch and texture! Yup, the foil trick is what did it for me, after taking my first loaf out too early… with a raw center! So glad you liked it– I’m sure that local gave the bread great flavor too. 🙂

I’d actually like to try adding more honey in place of sugar in the future. Bananas and honey are just a perfect match, I think! 🙂

It seems to me that poppy seeds make everything better. Your bread looks wonderful Susan, wish I had a piece to nibble on right now!

Wow, how good do those golden slices of bread look – and the melting butter on top sends it into blissdom.

Hi Susan, this does look delicious…and perfect with tea. I wish I had a slice now. There is nothing like a new banana bread recipe, and I love the addition of poppy seeds. Thank you so much for sharing with us!
