Fresh and hot from the oven |
I love Dutch Apple Pie! And I’ve used the same recipe for about 20 years. It’s really good, but I wanted something more. This recipe from allrecipes.com promised to deliver with a heaping pile of Oatmeal Streusel. It comes together quickly and easily. The only changes I made were to substitute 1 teaspoon of Apple Pie Spice for the three individual spices in the filling, and to leave the lemon zest out of the topping. I used a frozen pie crust from Marie Callendar’s (I know, I know, but I work full-time!) and Gala Apples.

This pie did not disappoint. The filling was sweet and thick and the topping was crisp and flavorful. It’s like combining a pie and a crisp into one wonderful dessert. You could add whipped cream, or ice cream, but it really doesn’t need it.

Yes please, I love the oatmeal streusel. This reminds me of a blend of apple pie and apple crisp!

Absolutely yes 🙂

This is calling (screaming) my name Susan, looks so good. If there’s ever something like this on the menu at a restaurant, it will always be my first choice. Of course I do ask for it warm with a little scoop of vanilla ice cream 🙂

Susan – both your and their recipes look great! I am planning a pie for tomorrow – our first Gala apples just hit the market on Sunday! Might have to try this! (it is healthy, right?) ~ David
