A fabulous way to celebrate your day! |
Cool and delicious! |
When our fruit bowl was overflowing with vibrant citrus, we decided to try our hand at making another version of Granita. We squeezed four cups of juice from blood oranges, oranges, limes, tangelos, and tangerines. Having thoroughly enjoyed Lemon Lime Champagne Granita with St. Germain, we could only imagine how wonderful this version would be with Sangria. And, it was!
Just delicious! |
Juice enough Citrus to yield 4 cups of juice
Mix 1 cup of citrus juice with 3/4 cup sugar in a microwave-safe bowl.
Heat on high setting in a microwave for one minute.
Stir juice to ensure sugar is dissolved.
Heat for an additional 30 seconds, if necessary.
Pour juice into a freezer-safe container and stir in:
Remaining 3 cups citrus juice
3 Tablespoons Grand Marnier
Place tight-fitting lid over container and place in freezer.
Take container out of the freezer once an hour, stir and break up all large pieces of ice.
The Granita will keep in the freezer for up to one week but you will have to scrape it with the times of a fork to fluff it up before using it.
Place 1 – 2 scoops of Citrus Granita in a wine glass and pour chilled Sangria over it. (We used El Toro Flaco from Cost Plus World Market.)
